Matt Ryerson has been appointed program manager for Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant Project, according to Dr. Rodney Fitzgerald, director.

"Mr. Ryerson will work directly with the 20 community grant partners/contractors in implementing the grant's activities throughout Cleveland and Bradley County as well as supervise the three newly hired behavior specialists," Fitzgerald states.

Ryerson received his doctorate of jurisprudence from Concord University in December 2005 and his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University. His professional career started with nine years of employment with the YMCA, followed by five years working in and managing a unit of a local adolescent psychiatric hospital.

Immediately prior to joining the SS/HS Grant team, Ryerson worked within the Department of Family and Children Services for the state of Georgia.

He and his wife, Heather, a graduate of Lee University who holds her master's degree in counseling, are expecting a son, Jackson Brooks, on April 17.

The Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant under the supervision of the Bradley/Cleveland Public Education Foundation Board of Directors works collaboratively with students, schools, and 20 community partners to implement a coordinated, comprehensive plan of activities, programs, and services that focus on creating safe school environments, promoting healthy psychosocial childhood development and preventing violence and other drug abuse.

"I am pleased to have someone with Matt Ryerson's background and expertise in after-school programming and mental health services join our team as we work to accomplish the ambitious goals of the SS/.HS Grant," Fitzgerald adds.
